What does this job entail?

As our systems engineer, you focus primarily on network infrastructure, but there’s a lot involved. Including scripting and security. As such, you’ll gradually discover the area in which you want to specialise. Ask Marlies and Kimberly, both KBC IT Young Graduates.
Just like them, you’ll take on the challenge of combining innovation with 100% uptime; from solving simple problems to fixing urgent issues with a new payment application.
What do we expect from you?
Depending on your interests, you’ll be joining a team that targets a specific business unit or works within a specific technical domain. A number of our teams work internationally, with team members and various clients within the KBC Group. It’s also very broad in terms of technology.
- You set up new servers, do system or software upgrades or install new applications. The operational management of our environment in other words.
- You prevent problems relating to system management. This may be, for example, by making backups or creating extra capacity.
- You automate whatever can be automated. No repetitive work for you!
- You dive into the details in the event of an incident, finding out what the exact problem is and working out a solution. Furthermore, you attempt to prevent incidents so that we have no downtime. That’s good for everyone.
- You take the lead, building new solutions and improving existing solutions.
- You join your colleagues in thinking about how new evolutions in the market can create added value for our business.
- You experiment with new products and determine whether they’re suitable for use at KBC. And if they are? You roll them out further .
Your key strengths?
- You love to explore. Automating a repetitive task, immersing yourself in new material, sparring with your colleagues over ways of doing things differently, testing out new technology: if this is what you like to do, you’ll be at home in this job.
- You have a bachelor’s or master’s degree in IT and are happy to become better acquainted with Cloud, Mainframe, Hadoop, Kubernetes and Docker infrastructure.
- You speak and write fluently in English.
