High-efficiency glass or completely new windows?

High-efficiency glass

There are several ways to make your home energy-efficient, and one of them is installing new windows.

If your window frames are still in good condition, you can replace the panes with high-efficiency glass. This type of glass offers double or even triple the insulation of standard double glazing. This is a good option if you’d prefer not to change the look of your property.

Window frame and high-efficiency glass

If you can hear noise from outside, lose a lot of heat through your windows or they no longer close properly, it’s probably time to replace your window frames.

Tip: have your new window frames fitted with high-efficiency glass so that everything is taken care of in one go. This offers better insulation.

FAQs

This type of glass provides double or triple the insulation of standard double glazing and is four to five times more effective than single glazing. This means it has a big impact on your energy bill, but that's not the only benefit. High-efficiency glass is made of a sturdy material that will make your windows last longer, and it also blocks heat from outside in summer, keeping your home cooler.

There are a few simple ways to check what kind of glass you have. If you hold your phone's torch 5 to 10 centimetres in front of the window, the light should appear four times in the reflection. If the lights are all the same colour, you have double glazing.

You can also examine the window frame and check for an aluminium strip separating the glass sheets. If you don’t see one, you have single glazing.

‘Impact us today’ is one of KBC’s partners. They have a network of contractors you can rely on to carry out sustainable renovations. That means ‘Impact us today’ doesn’t actually carry out the works, rather they put you in touch with a reliable contractor.

You’re under no obligation to do so. Once you’ve submitted your request in KBC Mobile, ‘Impact us today’ will contact you within five business days to arrange an appointment. The contractor will then visit you to assess the situation and prepare a no-obligation quote.

After energy-efficient renovation work has been carried out, it might be a good idea to apply for a new EPC. This may be necessary, for example, if you want to apply for an EPC-label grant or if you want to sell your home.

Tip: you can apply for your EPC with just a few taps in KBC Mobile. If you require other certificates or proof of inspections, you can also use KBC Mobile to make arrangements for obtaining an asbestos certificate, electrical inspection report or a heating oil tank inspection report, all in one go. This service is provided by our partner ‘De Immowinkel’.

Installing new windows with high-efficiency glass will save money on your energy bills, but it’s still a significant outlay. You can apply for an energy loan at KBC to finance your project. Find out more.
