Multi-mobility: towards a sustainable future
There are all kinds of solutions available that allow your company to manage its mobility needs efficiently and flexibly. A multi-mobility policy allows you to create a framework within which employees are free to decide how they wish to travel at any given time, discouraging the use of diesel vehicles in favour of more sustainable, healthier alternatives.
Multi-mobility means multiple benefits:
- Retain satisfied employees
A multi-mobility policy means employees are fit, healthy and able to choose the mode of transport that works best for them at that time. - Travel more sustainably
Not only are bicycles and trains environmentally friendly, they also reduce traffic jams. - Future-proof your mobility policy
The current tax-efficient scheme for company cars is coming under pressure and modern employees are looking for greater flexibility. Moreover, governments and cities are increasingly committed to alternative mobility plans. - Control costs
You create the mobility framework, set the options offered to employees who drive/cycle and keep your costs under control. Once you’ve allocated a budget and set limits, employees are free to choose their preferred options from a range of mobility solutions.
Ilse lives 30 km from work and always takes the car, occasionally driving to head office in Brussels. This means stress and traffic jams every day, which isn’t ideal.
After a mobility scan, Ilse opts for a different approach:
- She works from home one day a week
- She takes the train if she has to go to Brussels
- She cycles to the office once a week in summer and occasionally during winter
This solution is made possible by combining an electric lease vehicle with a lease bike acquired through a salary exchange arrangement. The Olympus app also enables Ilse to spend less on public transport.
KBC Autolease has clearly been busy and has evolved into an experienced player on the electric mobility market.

1. Car leasing
There are all kinds of factors to consider when assembling your ideal fleet. While electric cars are the most tax-efficient option, it can be worthwhile to consider other aspects. We’ve listed the different types of vehicle available below as well as their benefits and drawbacks.
Fully electric vehicles are powered exclusively by one or more electric motors. The battery (lithium-ion) is charged from the grid, as well as from the electricity generated when slowing down and braking.
- Electric vehicles do not release carbon while in motion
- 100% tax-deductible
- Electric vehicles are far more economical than (heavier) plug-in hybrid vehicles
- Electric vehicles offer a relaxed, pleasant way to drive while still being agile and quiet
- Low maintenance costs
- Wide range of electric vehicles available
Together with the charging solution and the available budget, the driving range is one of the determining factors when choosing an electric vehicle. The range of modern electric vehicles varies, starting from 90 km and extending up to more than 500 km, which means they offer a substantial potential driving range each year.
The range of your electric vehicle depends on:
- The usable energy capacity of the battery (in kWh)
- The actual consumption (in kWh per 100 km)
- The ability to charge the vehicle quickly and safely for the following journey
Short-range electric vehicles are the best driving solution for urban environments, while long-range electric vehicles are perfect for longer motorway journeys, making them a viable alternative to petrol and diesel cars.
Driving a low number of kilometres with an electric vehicle is not cost-efficient due to the high investment value and the need for additional investment in charging infrastructure. Consequently, we do not recommend imposing a maximum number of kilometres for electric vehicles. Moreover, the majority of electric vehicles are extremely well-suited for use as the primary family vehicle. Our handy Guide to Driving Electric Vehicles will help you work out which electric vehicle would be ideal for you.

A plug-in hybrid vehicle has two engines: an internal combustion engine (generally petrol-driven) and a powerful electric motor. The battery can be charged in advance from the mains or at a charging station. Depending on the vehicle, you can drive up to 100 km using only electric power. Once the battery is empty, the petrol engine takes over.
- Very powerful because the internal combustion engine and electric motor can also operate simultaneously
- Low official fuel consumption (in theory) and therefore low carbon emissions
- True plug-in hybrids are (almost) 100% tax-deductible
Plug-in hybrids may be worth considering for drivers interested in electric (and emission-free) driving in the city but who also regularly use the motorway.
- Lower purchase price than a comparable diesel vehicle
- Available for the same models as diesel
- Many manufacturers have invested in powerful and fuel-efficient petrol engines (for example, a one-litre turbocharged 3-cylinder that easily delivers 120hp)
- Fuel consumption depends to a large extent on driving style, particularly for turbochargers
- It’s easy to make the switch from diesel to petrol
A full hybrid vehicle has two engines: an internal combustion engine (generally petrol-driven) and an electric motor. The battery for the latter is charged by the petrol engine and by the energy released when braking.
- Better emissions performance (soot and nitrous oxides) than diesel
- 100% electrical power for very short journeys
- Electric motor mainly used for support when pulling away or accelerating, in order to reduce the use of the internal combustion engine
- Usually around 75-80% tax-deductible
- Almost silent with smooth starting and pleasant driving characteristics
Full hybrid vehicles are excellent in the city, in stop-start traffic and in traffic jams, because they then make full use of the hybrid propulsion system.
- Economical internal combustion engine
- Lower carbon emissions
- Actual fuel consumption depends far less on driving style than for other types of vehicle
- Extensive range of models available
- Diesel vehicles are less expensive to purchase than equivalent petrol vehicles
Diesel remains a sensible choice for frequent motorway journeys of more than 50 kilometres and a minimum of 30 000 km/year. Modern diesel vehicles perform best when taking frequent motorway journeys of 30-45 minutes. However, diesel engines are not the best choice for use only in the city or for short journeys.
2. Bicycle leasing
Did you know that 20% of employees live less than 15 kilometres from their work? That distance can easily be covered by bike. What’s more, cycling offers benefits for people and the environment. Not only that, there are tax incentives for cycling and you can pay a cycle allowance.
Our super-flexible bike leasing arrangement lets everyone get pedalling in their own way – just go to one of our premium bike dealers and choose the bike that suits your lifestyle.
Together with our professional network, we take care of all the practical details.
We have a huge variety of options available, so everyone can find the ideal bike for them.
