How to see what software or browser is installed on your laptop or computer
Software (version)
If you've got Windows on your computer.
Go to the Windows 'Start' button and search for 'winver'. If you click on the search result, a pop-up window will automatically appear with information on your laptop or computer's operating system.
If you've got a Macbook.
Click the Apple logo top right on your desktop and choose 'About this Mac'. A pop-up window will automatically appear showing the version of your Mac's software.
Browser (version)
Internet Explorer: open Internet Explorer and click the 'Extra' button top right (shown as a cogwheel). Click 'About Internet Explorer’.
Firefox: open Firefox and click the menu button at the top. The menu button has three horizontal lines. Select 'Help' and click 'About Firefox'.
Google Chrome: open Google Chrome and click the icon with the three horizontal lines top right. Select 'About Google Chrome’.
Safari: open your browser, click ‘Safari’ at the top and select ‘About Safari’.
How to check which software version is installed on your tablet
Software on your Android tablet:
- Tap the 'Settings' icon.
- Select 'General' (usually at the top of your screen).
- On the left-hand side, you'll see the 'Device manager' menu. Tap 'Device info'.
- Now you can check what version of Android you have on your tablet.

If you've got an Android tablet:
- Tap the 'Settings' icon.
- Select 'General' (usually at the top of your screen).
- On the left-hand side, you'll see the 'Device manager' menu. Choose 'Device info'.
- Select 'Software update' at the top to install any available updates, plus you can opt to run future updates automatically.
If you've got an iPad:
- Tap the 'Settings' icon.
- Select 'General' in the menu on the left-hand side.
- Choose 'Software update'.
- You can now install all available updates on your iPad.
